Curriculum

The system of graduations within the Missing Link Karate Community has two parts.

The first is the Omote Curriculum, featuring five Kyu degrees from yellow to brown belt. The last step of this student curriculum is the Kuro Obi, the black belt, which includes the knowledge and ability of the complete Omoto curriculum. The Kuro Obi exam concludes the student level.

Different from other Martial Arts styles we don’t believe in counting a growing number of black belts following that moment. We think that Karateka who really want to go on after their black belt exam (and aim to grow personally by practicing their Martial Art) should strive to be experts on their own, working hard on their individual development. On their way to mastership they should also give something back to the community and work active in the further development of Missing Link Karate.

For that reason the Okuden/Kaiden Curriculum– the master level graduation – follows a different idea of granting new levels to practitioners. Karateka on the level of Kuro Obi can apply for master level degrees. These are not examined in a graduation ceremony, but gained in two intensive workshops, split on two different weekends. In the course of these workshops all participants will practice together as one group, hosted by examination instructors named by the Founder Circle. The maximum group size for these workshops is six to eight people.

There is no examiner, but collaborative work of all participants.
